Howick Primary School 50th Jubilee

Last week Howick Primary School celebrated its 50th birthday.

On Friday we tried to bury the time capsule, but it absolutely poured down, so we tried again on Monday with great success. Room 17 made a special page to go in the time capsule with our names and favourite things about school on it. We also created a page each to go in the capsule which will be dug up again 50 years from now.

On the weekend the school had lots of visitors including past principals, teachers, staff, and students.

Room 17 Swimming

Due to a wonderful term of sunny weather we enjoyed a full term of swimming this year.  Thank you to all the parent helpers who came along and helped with some of our afternoon lessons.  We love swimming, especially using the noodles in different ways to help us float.

Grandparents' Day

Last Tuesday it was our "Grandparents' and Extended Family Day". We enjoyed having members of our families join us to see what we were learning about, to join in discussions about "Now and Then", and to give them a tour around our school.

It was great to have people come in person from near and far (including Scotland) and visit us via Skype (from the United States).

We hope our families enjoyed the day as much as the children and enjoyed the morning tea in the hall that followed.

We look forward to seeing you all here next year.

Every week we learn a new group of letters or chunk. Children brainstorm all the words they know that have this chunk and then make a song up about it (including actions). This is our "ip" song that we sang to our grandparents.

To celebrate Grandparents' Day we found a poem and did a painted hand print which we took home and gave to our Grandparents to keep as a reminder of the day.
